City of Cockburn Jetty to Jetty

The annual Coogee Beach Jetty to Jetty swim and walk event was held on Sunday March 9, 2014.

The annual City of Cockburn Jetty to Jetty swim and walk event is jointly organised by Cockburn Masters and the Rotary Club of Cockburn.

The Jetty to Jetty event is a special community event which provides a great opportunity for anyone to take part, while also raising funds for local community projects. This achievement was recognised formally through the awarding of the "Premier's Australia Day ACTIVE CITIZENSHIP Award for a Community Group or Event " at the 2009 Australia Day ceremony at the City of Cockburn.

The event is held on the first Sunday in March after the Labour Day long weekend and is a very popular part of the annual Open Water Swim calendar because it takes place in clear sheltered waters between Coogee Beach and Woodman Point.

It starts with a 1500m or 750m walk along the beach and then a swim back over the same distance. There is a simultaneous start of both events, with additional wave starts in the more popular 1500m swim, all finishing at the Woodman Point Jetty under an in-water finishing boom.

This combined walk and swim event is one of those rare family and community events with competitors ranging from 8 years through to 85 years old and continues to increase in popularity from year to year.
